helm is a very popular package manager for Kubeernetes.

However, its installation is not straightforward since RBAC has been integrated to Kubernetes.

Inspite of its high-level popularity, the official installation guide does not work. In my EKS cluster with Kubernetes v1.15, helm complains Error: could not find tiller.

helm requires a service called tiller installed in the cluster, and tiller requires a privileged service account to run.

Here is how to install tiller and helm initialization.

helm init
kubectl create serviceaccount --namespace kube-system tiller
kubectl create clusterrolebinding tiller-cluster-rule --clusterrole=cluster-admin --serviceaccount=kube-system:tiller
kubectl patch deploy --namespace kube-system tiller-deploy -p '{"spec":{"template":{"spec":{"serviceAccount":"tiller"}}}}'
